Improving Healthcare for Autistic Individuals and People with Learning Disabilities
The ‘Capturing Change’ project is looking for ways to improve healthcare experiences of autistic individuals and people with learning disabilities.
‘Capturing Change’ is a three-year initiative commissioned by BSOL Integrated Care Board and delivered by Solihull Action Through Advocacy, Solihull Experts by Experience CIC and our partner Midland Mencap.
How Can you Help?
There is a new plan to make improvements to healthcare services and whether you get the right services you need and at the right time. This plan was created by people with lived experience. The Capturing Change project needs your help to understand how the plan is working with the support you receive at the doctors, hospitals and other healthcare services.
How to get Involved:
If you are aged 18+ and live or receive healthcare in Birmingham or Solihull, share what needs changing and what is currently working well.
Share your experiences by:
- Taking part in focus groups and surveys
- Speaking with someone by telephone or in person
- Complete the online survey
You can also complete this survey as a family member, Carer, advocate, or health professional of a person who is autistic and or has a learning disability. The Capturing Change project would like to talk to people about learning disabilities/autism and dementia, pain management, and experiences of virtual and online healthcare.
For more information and to get involved:
- Take the survey

The Capturing Change project is running until the end of September.
Affected by Dementia?
Capturing Change is also covering the topic of dementia and how it impacts on the healthcare experiences of autistic people and those with learning disabilities who are diagnosed with dementia. The perspective of a loved one being diagnosed with dementia and how this impacts them alongside their learning disability and/or autism is also being called for. People with learning disabilities and/or autistic individuals who experience dementia may need specific support. The NHS wants to make sure the correct support is available.
Your stories are vital to promote positive change.
