Covid-19 vaccines now available to those with a learning disability

The NHS, has now confirmed that citizens aged 18 plus who have learning disabilities and classed as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV) are now eligible to book a vaccination.  A letter from the NHS will have been sent to those classed as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable informing them that they should be shielding during this lockdown.

Citizens with Downs Syndrome and/or clinically vulnerable are entitled to vaccine prioritisation.It has also been confirmed that for young people aged 16 and above in these two groups that if families are concerned and want their son/daughter vaccinated, then a clinical discussion with their lead medical practitioners is the pathway to vaccination.

If the person you provide care for falls into the above categories, you will receive a letter from the NHS with information about how to book a vaccination.  Here is some information about the vaccine.

Unpaid Carers should inform their GP of their role
Unpaid Carers in the Covid-19 vaccine priority list are ranked as priority group 6 – ‘all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality.’ This includes those who are in receipt of a carer’s allowance, or those who are the main Carer of an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the Carer falls ill. Carers are advised to ensure that they are registered as a Carer with their GP, as GP’s are providing the data to the NHS about vaccination eligibility.
