Forward Carers Health Liaison Team Delivers Carer Friendly Health Training

Forward Carers were delighted to deliver Carer Friendly Health Training to NHS teams on 25th March.

23 staff attended from GP practices across Birmingham including Practice Managers, Care Coordinators and Reception staff. The breadth of roles represented highlights a clear and growing appetite within primary care for practical training that supports staff to better recognise and respond to unpaid Carers.

The session strengthened participants’ understanding of how to identify and support Carers within health settings, while building confidence in signposting individuals to appropriate services. Attendees left better equipped to embed Carer awareness into their day-to-day practice, contributing to more inclusive and responsive care.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting both the quality of the training and the value placed on this learning:

“A comprehensive course that has enhanced my coaching skills and professional development.” – Safeguarding Lead, GP practice

“I now feel truly empowered to act as a bridge between carers and the services they need. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that I’m helping to create an environment where people feel seen, valued, and understood.” – Senior Administrator, GP practice

“The course was packed with loads of useful information. Perfect for anyone involved in caring. It inspired my skills and practical knowledge.” – GP Practice Manager

This training was delivered by Monica Gregory, Health Liaison manager and supported by Project coordinators Anne Barnes and Anna Lockley-Scott.

This session marks another important step towards building more Carer Friendly health services, ensuring unpaid Carers are identified earlier and supported more effectively. The strong engagement and feedback also demonstrate a clear desire across the healthcare community for continued learning opportunities in this area
