Coronavirus vaccination update
Professor Graeme Betts CBE, The Corporate Director of Adult Social Care at Birmingham City Council has written to Carers. Here is a copy of the letter for your information.
Dear Carer
Coronavirus vaccination update
I hope you are keeping safe and well. I am writing to ensure that you continue to have
access to information in relation to the ongoing covid situation. With the new variant
spreading very quickly in the city, I wanted to reassure you that myself and my team
continue to be here to provide you with support over the festive period and beyond.
As you will be aware from media reports, the covid situation continues to be a
challenge for us all. Our hospitals continue to be stretched to manage the influx of
patients with normal illnesses, and this is before the spread of flu and the new Omicron
variant of covid.
I would urge you to book for your booster injection as soon as you are able to do so
as evidence now suggests that this will protect against severe illness and probably
transmission of the new variant.
The new rules are that all adults aged 18 and over can book their covid booster dose
from Wednesday 15th December.
There has been a drive to ensure that social care staff are fully vaccinated, and I can
assure you that where legislation has been passed, we are ensuring we only allow
fully vaccinated staff members to provide care to citizens on our behalf.
If you have not yet had your first vaccinations, you can book with your GP or via the
national NHS booking system.
The latest government advice can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus and
it should always be followed.
As always, Adult Social Care support and advice is still available by contacting your
local social work team. If you do not know how to do this and need help urgently,
please call 0121 303 1234.
Please take care of yourself and your loved ones and let’s hope for a brighter 2022.
Yours sincerely
Professor Graeme Betts CBE
