Cold Weather and Support Available
An Amber (Enhanced Action)Cold – Health Alert has been updated by UKHSA / Met Office for the West Midlands. There will be a drop in temperatures between 28/11/2023 and 05/12/2023.
Amber alerts are triggered as soon as the weather described following a Yellow alert has occurred. It indicates that severe winter weather is now happening and an impact on health and health services is expected. (Met Office forecasts a 60% chance of severe winter weather (a mean temperature of 2°C or less and/or heavy snow and widespread ice), in one or more defined geographical areas for a period of at least 48 hours in the next 5 days.)

Please read this information on keeping warm and well as these tips. If the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over 7 consecutive days, you will receive a Cold Weather Payment. Find out if you are eligible.
HelpinBrum introduced 243 warm spaces across the city and Birmingham City Council can support with helping you to reduce your fuel bills. There are several schemes available to Birmingham residents, including:
- free installation of central heating
- switching energy suppliers
- support with fuel debts
- energy saving measures
- energy efficient appliances

Attention Shard End Residents
Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Combined Authority are working together to provide free energy efficiency improvements to eligible residents.
If you receive a means tested benefit, or your household income is less that £31,000 before tax, you may be eligible. You can find out more by going along to their community event on Thursday 7th December from 3-6pm at Shard End Wellbeing Centre.
